A note on Percentile Rank (PR) and Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
Mensa Eligibility
Membership of Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent (i.e. Percentile Rank 98 and above) of the general population on an approved intelligence test, one that has been properly administered and supervised. There is no other qualification for initial membership eligibility.
Percentile Rank
Definition of a percentile rank of an individual is a number where a certain percentage of scores fall below that number. Percentile rank 98 indicates that 98% people of the population score below the score attained by the individual.
Some intelligence tests give score of an individual in terms of Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Where Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is a ratio of individual’s Mental Age (MA)(indicated on test) and Chronological Age (CA)(by birth). IQ = 100 X MA/CA.
Some tests do give equivalence of IQ and Percentile rank, but all do not mention it. This equivalence differs from test to test.
The tests which mention Percentile rank or standing of a person in population are considered for Mensa qualification. Some such tests are mentioned below.

All the standardized intelligence tests available in India and abroad with nonverbal contents.
The standardized tests for deciding eligibility for Mensa, needs to be given by trained persons only, under ethically appropriate conditions.
Online test scores are not accepted, for deciding Mensa eligibility, as on today.
Conditions for prior evidence
If you are pretested by authorized test administrator, the report of testing, signed by the administrator (with his/her designation), the test date, time, location, nationality etc. details need to be provided. Manual reference, of the test conducted, needs to be mentioned. If needed, copy of the manual will have to be submitted to the National Supervisory Psychologist, (NSP) India. Certificate of Test-Administrator and Report writer, given by certifying agencies such as (Mensa, University, Research Centre/ Institute, Registered Testing Agencies) needs to be attached with the report.
This is applicable to any individual irrespective of his/her nationality.

Acceptable prior evidence includes a full educational psychologist’s report, documentary evidence of previous IQ testing, or by sitting an approved supervised IQ test offered by various organisations.
Applicants should submit a copy of their evidence along with a ratification fee of Rs. 1500/-. Once the eligibility of the evidence has been confirmed by our NSP, Mensa will be able to issue an invitation to join.
